I was playing Rainbow Six Siege a week prior, and suddenly the game began to freeze. When I checked Task Manager, everything seemed normal—it wasn’t lagging or unresponsive. So I had to shut it down myself using Task Manager, otherwise it would remain stuck indefinitely. At first, I dismissed this as a minor glitch and kept playing. But the problem persisted and worsened over time. Initially, freezing occurred once daily, but soon it happened ten times a day. Frustrated, I tried various fixes: checking game files, uninstalling and reinstalling, switching drives (SSD and HDD), removing unused apps, closing background processes, updating drivers (including Nvidia), reinstalling the latest Nvidia driver via DDU, using older or newer versions of the driver, adjusting BIOS settings, resetting BIOS to defaults, disabling virtualization features, changing fan curves, updating firmware, and tweaking XMP profiles. I also experimented with different operating systems, drivers, and stress tests using tools like Kombuster and OC Scanner. Despite these efforts, nothing resolved the issue. I even tried other games such as Apex Legends and Life is Strange 2, which shared the same problem. In Apex Legends, freezing triggered a “not responding” alert in Task Manager, then closed automatically after a minute. Before freezing, small black areas appeared near the edges—possibly artifacts. After the crash, no logs or errors appeared on Windows or the engine. Occasionally, Apex Legends displayed a toast error. I used Windows 20H2 for most of my sessions, downgrading and reinstalling the OS when necessary. I wasn’t OCing anything except the GPU, which stayed at factory settings for nearly two years. My system specs included a CPU-Z report and DxDiag files.

The game is actually Vulkan-based, Rainbow Six offers two launch choices—DirectX and Vulkan. We tried both, though I’m not sure if the Vulkan version works separately from DirectX. I’ll check them out too, thanks!
