Hello, I’m dealing with an issue I’ve never encountered before. I’ve searched online but found nothing relevant. I don’t post on forums; I usually manage to find solutions myself. When playing games like Ark or The Forest, my screen goes completely black in low-light environments. For instance, in The Forest, the screen turns off when night falls. However, with enough objects—like sleep and save icons—the display remains active. In Ark, I can’t do anything except use a torch, and it’s not just about increasing brightness. I’ve lost my HUD, but I’m still able to hear everything normally since the game runs correctly. This problem started about two weeks ago. I’ve been trying to diagnose it ever since. My PC setup is unusual—Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (version 21H2), HP Inspiron board, AMD Athlon II X4 635 (2.9GHz), Nvidia GeForce GTX 760, 12GB RAM (four sticks from other machines, memory not remembered), and a 2TB SATA Seagate Barracuda HDD at 7500 RPM. I know it needs an upgrade, but the drive has lasted since 2012. I’ve tried updating drivers, cleaning, reseating components, changing monitors, and everything else I could think of. My guess is either my card is failing or my old CPU is failing. I’m not sure what’s causing this. I was introduced to PCs at age seven in 2000 and have been keeping up with updates ever since. This seems rare for me, and I hope you can help. Thank you.
I don’t have another GPU available and my CPU lacks built-in graphics support.
I wasn’t able to locate exactly what you mentioned, but I tried resetting all settings in your Nvidia Control Panel even though nothing had changed. It seemed to help. Right now I’m in The Forest, looking at a black wall in a cave with my HUD. I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed... That was really stressful. Thanks.
It seems you resolved the issue by activating the Full RGB dynamic range of 0-255 on your device. This setting was likely turned off by default, so after a full reset, it returned to the standard 16-235 Limited RGB and then fixed it for you. The current configuration reflects this choice.
