Game VR experiences are experiencing stuttering and a decline in FPS.
Hello,
My quest 2 has been ongoing for about four weeks, and I think I spent around three weeks dealing with problems.
I experienced recurring issues with Half life Alyx, and now Beat Saber is behaving similarly.
Frame rates drop from 90 to 80 and then fluctuate around that number—about 40% of the song plays without affecting the FPS, which isn’t using my GPU or CPU heavily.
This pattern repeats on Link, VD, and Airlink as well.
My system details:
- Ryzen 5 3600
- Nvidia 2070 Super
- 16GB RAM at 3200MHz (dual channel)
- 650W Corsair PSU
I’ve tried everything:
- Reinstalling Windows
- Updating DDU drivers
- Setting SSD at 100% and SS at 60%
- Running at high and low settings
- Disabling antivirus and firewall
- Scanning with Nvidia display panel settings
- Turning off XMP profile
- Unplugging all HDDs
- Installing on an SSD
- Disconnecting all USB devices
- Using VRMode Oculus, Airlink, Link, VD
I’m reaching a breaking point. I shouldn’t have these problems, especially since I regularly play Warzone, Wolfenstein, Resident Evil at 120FPS or higher on 1080p or 1440p.
I really need to find a way to log the machine’s behavior so I can review it later. It clearly isn’t enough to diagnose this issue by just checking Task Manager.
Please help me troubleshoot—this is frustrating.
Thanks,
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Corsair is the brand of the PSU and 650W refers to the power rating, but it doesn't specify the model. How recent is your PSU? Please share the BIOS version you're using on your motherboard. Which two RAM slots are currently occupied on the board? Regarding the motherboard itself, what is its make and model? What operating system version are you running? After reinstalling, did you create a bootable USB installer using Windows Media Creation Tools? For drivers, ensure they're all stored on a USB drive and ready to use once the OS installation completes. It's best to disconnect from the internet during this process so the OS doesn't download drivers that may not suit your platform. You should manually install each driver in an elevated command—right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.
Thanks for your time.
My system includes a TX650m motherboard, approximately two years old.
It runs a B450 Gaming carbon pro MSI board with the latest BIOS 7B85v1F4.
RAM consists of Corsair RGB vengeance 3200mhz chips in slots 2 and 4.
I installed Windows 10 20H2 2009 using a USB stick created with Rufus.
All drivers were added according to your instructions from the MSI website and Nvidia for the graphics card.
The operating system is on an M.2 SSD, along with my games, but a separate one as well.
