Game that got you into PC gaming
The title that sparked my interest in PC gaming was Next Car Game. It came out just a bit over a year ago. Back then, I was a dedicated PC player who enjoyed SimCity 3k and Rollercoaster Tycoon—when I was around eight years old. Finding time on the single machine we had at home was quite challenging.
It was a game named Hellbender, running on Windows 95. It was a space shooter. I nearly won it, but someone damaged my CD.
Doom marked my first gaming experience. That’s why I mention it since before that I just played Super Mario Bros and Contra on the NES.
Hey there, Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament were handling okay on my old Compaq Presario 7970. It ran smoothly with AMD Athlon 700 @ 700MHz, 128MB RAM, a 40GB hard drive, plus an aftermarket upgrade featuring a 3DFX Voodoo 4 32MB PCI GPU. The operating system was Windows 98 Second Edition. Similarly, I enjoyed Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and the associated show. My very first PC was a Macintosh LC 575: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ma...c_575.html It had a 33Mhz CPU, 8MB RAM, 160MB hard drive, a GPU with just 1MB VRAM, and ran Mac OS 7.5. I played Marathon (Bungie’s early FPS) and Warcraft II, though Duke Nukem 3D didn’t run well at 640x480—so I stuck to 512x288.
