Game server connection is getting worse, even though my internet works well.
I am frustrated about this, and it's happened all year for me. When I try to play online games, I can get connected to the servers okay at first. But after a few minutes, my connection suddenly drops completely, which kills my game session and sends me back to the menu. I can reconnect easily, but the problem comes right back up shortly after. To find out if it was just my internet, I ran a ping test on my second monitor while playing. The tests looked fine; no requests timed out at all. This happens mostly with Sea of Thieves, Deep Rock Galactic, Titanfall 2 on the Northstar client, CSGO, and Team Fortress 2, like any game that needs a dedicated server connection. Only Destiny 2 is completely free from this issue because it uses Peer-to-Peer connections instead. I know that's true for Destiny 2 since it doesn't use dedicated servers. But I have a weird problem with Team Fortress 2 too. If anyone knows this game, I can play on Valve's official casual servers without any disconnects. However, using community servers causes the connection to drop after just a few minutes, sometimes instantly in the worst cases. I called my ISP and they said they don't answer support tickets on weekends. I even got a brand new TP-Link WIFI 6 router. But my internet still doesn't drop; I can watch videos or listen to music without issue. It feels like the connections to game servers are specifically cutting out, not my main connection. I messed with firewalls, tried removing viruses, tried port forwarding, and installed the new router—nothing has fixed it. Any help would be great because this is really driving me crazy. This year, I've only been able to play online with friends by using my phone as a hotspot, and I don't want to have to do that constantly anymore.
I recommend changing your settings and turning off IPv6 by clicking the link below to see how it works. The main reason? IPv6 isn't used much right now, and having it on makes my connection drop when things get slow. Turning it off helps fix lag and stops players getting kicked out of the game. That's exactly what happened to me last year while playing online.
