I possess an Acer Aspire 5 laptop with a 1TB HDD, an Nvidia GeForce MX150 (2GB), and an Intel Core i5 processor. Previously, it consistently ran newer titles like Rainbow Six: Siege, Sekiro, and Far Cry 5 at approximately 60-70 frames per second on medium settings, while older games such as Dark Souls and CS:GO maintained around 110 fps. However, recently, Rainbow Six Siege began exhibiting significant lag (5-20 fps). This issue has recurred previously, resolved by disabling the “full screen optimization” setting within the game’s executable file. Currently, this method is ineffective; all games on my system now suffer from lag, even older titles that should perform optimally with my GPU. I have verified that all games are utilizing the dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150 and not the integrated graphics card, yet persistent lag remains, even at low resolutions and quality settings. I have attempted troubleshooting steps including lowering screen resolution, updating Nvidia drivers from the official website, and upgrading my system to its latest version. Furthermore, I investigated potential memory issues, scanned for malware, and ensured sufficient hard drive space (500GB free). Despite these efforts, the problem persists, and I am seeking assistance as gaming is a significant passion.

Did you accidentally change the power plan to power saving mode? Also, check for temperature and malware issues. If you’ve owned it for a while, consider cleaning it to prevent dust buildup on the processor heatsinks. Finally, any drops, even minor ones, can damage a laptop.

I have never loaned my PC to anyone. Despite attempting to utilize the “high performance” setting, I experienced no improvement in performance. Furthermore, I have run scans with three different antivirus programs and utilized Defrag to assess the disk state, which was found to be satisfactory. Considering that hardware issues are the only plausible explanation, I intend to seek assistance from a computer service provider. Thank you for your response; it was very helpful!

Recently, I’m uncertain if this concerns the GPU malfunction. Yesterday, while attempting to resolve the issue and running games to assess functionality, I observed that my GPU fan remained stationary despite its previous operation during proper GPU function. What’s your assessment?

Recently, I observed that my GPU fan remained stationary despite previous operation during troubleshooting and gaming attempts, a change from its prior behavior.

If the GPU fans are not spinning, do not run it. I experienced a situation where one fan on my dual-fan 7970 went out, and I replaced it with an exact factory dual fan assembly with wires and plugs for $12 on eBay, new. This model was popular, so locating a replacement may be challenging if your card doesn’t have it.
