Game performance has declined recently, and dual-monitor setups are causing problems.
I have two monitors set up: a Main Samsung 24FG with DP connection at 144Hz free sync, and a second Samsung 27 using HDMI with RX580 GPU. My experience is that FPS frequently drops in games, especially League of Legends. With the second monitor connected, performance remains stable regardless of full screen or borderless mode. I've tried updating drivers, using original cables, adjusting the main monitor to 120Hz, enabling/freezing free sync on both devices, and changing VSync settings. Still, performance suffers when switching between windows or using certain game configurations. When I switch tabs rapidly, the monitor flashes and shows a DISPLAY PORT message. Have others faced similar problems?
Are there any applications active on the second monitor? I own three displays, with a 75Hz main and two at 60Hz. There’s been a problem where playing animated content—like YouTube, games, or videos—on the 60Hz monitor causes noticeable choppiness. Even when minimizing the browser on the main screen, the game runs at around 20fps while the FPS counter shows 75 or higher. This has happened with my RX580 and now also with the 2070S.
Yes, but sometimes the second monitor shows nothing even though it should display. I've looked into this thoroughly and it doesn't appear to be a widely discussed problem. Considering the trend, many users upgrade to higher refresh rate displays and use a second 60Hz monitor. Which games are you playing?
