Recently our school provided every student with a Chromebook. It’s a double-edged thought—simplifies grading, distribution, and assignments. Yet students tend to use it for gaming, hacking, and installing Linux. My friend even set up Minecraft and Steam on his limited storage. Performance was impressive: Minecraft ran smoothly with high settings (45-60 FPS), while CS:GO showed low performance at 25-35 FPS. Not Starve All was also decent at 30-40 FPS. These outcomes were unexpected since Chromebooks lack a dedicated GPU and rely on Intel chips clocked around 1.6 GHz.

It includes an SD card port, but a child installed Windows and it runs at around 30 frames per second on the home screen without any activity.

Because they're not inexpensive, they might actually be affordable ultrabooks with powerful Windows versions and great displays.

You're asking if it's realistic? At 15 FPS on a 2011 MacBook Air with low settings, a 1336x768 display in Minecraft sounds quite slow.

I don't have a specific Chromebook to mention. Could you clarify which one you're referring to?
