Game of the decade???
Looking back, this period has felt a bit lacking in games for me. Mass Effect came out in 2007, so it belongs to the previous decade. Mass Effect 2 followed in 2010, and it was a great title, only slightly overshadowed by ME3’s conclusion to the series. After that, the games that really stand out are World of Tanks, which I played intermittently from 2013 onward, Final Fantasy 14, which I enjoyed for about two to three years, and Il-2 Great Battles, which initially seemed underwhelming compared to Il-2 1946 and the poor launch of Cliffs of Dover. Over time, the game improved, especially with the Battle of Bodenplatte expansion, and I’ve become really engaged with it now.
All in all, if I had to choose just one game from 2010, it would be World of Tanks. It’s because I really enjoyed it for a long time during this time, and because its free-to-play format played a big role in shaping the gaming landscape of that decade. Unlike many titles that focused solely on monetization, it managed to keep the competition alive while exploring new ways to engage players financially.
I'd recommend Rainbow Six Siege. It offered a refreshing change in the FPS world, mixing CS elements with some COD and character shooter aspects. The level of destruction I've seen hasn't been this intense since Bad Company 2.
I think The Last of Us is a strong choice, and Bioshock Infinite could also fit the bill.
Would have to agree with the last of us, such an amazing story. But even if thats my pick. I think the logical answer is.. Mario? just as a whole. I know mario came out before 2000, But even now. This decade; it brings together families. Its a great franchise. And i'm quite sure anyone under 60 has touched mario/knows mario. So; Mario.
My journey began powerfully with Star Trek Online, Minecraft stayed consistent for most of its run, and even though I started late, Guild Wars 2 is gaining a strong boost to surpass both of them. I’ll mention Fallout 3, 7 Days to Die, and StarMade with respect.
Among them, StarMade had the worst performance (controversial updates and slow development slowed the community), followed by Star Trek Online (which keeps adding grind with less excitement). Minecraft is a regular hit when you have the right group, and 7 Days to Die is a reliable choice on its own. Fallout 3 kept going as long as it released DLCs, I’d have played more.
Guild Wars 2 has its issues, but together they don’t match the fun I’ve gotten from it. I hope things stay like this.
It really comes down to how we evaluate these titles. If popularity drives the decision, games like CSGO will naturally be considered, while poor-quality sports titles from EA might not fit. On the other hand, cutting out games based on political or social agendas means we should focus only on content, design, and depth.
When popularity is set aside, the remaining options should be judged by their complexity and creativity.
I really struggled to choose a standout game from this decade. It’s been quite contentious—PC culture has influenced many areas, and business interests have disrupted monetization strategies. The gaming industry has taken a hit, making it tough to decide what truly stands out.
