Game not running smoothly when using high frame rates?
I've observed in a game I play that I receive 180-360 FPS on one client with better mods, while another client with worse mods gives me 400-500 FPS.
I have a 120hz monitor and can't really think of a reason why the extra 200+ fps would make the game feel so much smoother—it's about as stable as the 180-360 range.
I've tried VSync and with VSync enabled, it's just as bad even when dropping under 119 FPS, which I should be able to handle without issues.
The only difference I know of is that one client is more optimized, but I need it to feel the same on the client with lower frames.

You might also want to mention the names of the games.
I would prefer not to receive anything I send, as it is consistently marked as spam.
You might want to review the xmp profile in the bios. It can lead to these kinds of issues.
Does the game allow running at 120fps? It requires significant GPU and CPU resources to produce those extra frames, which are ultimately discarded. What it actually does is increase the displayed number rather than sending real frames to the screen. I think your issue likely lies in the game code itself, not the video output. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly because game behavior varies widely. For example, on a login screen you usually see a stable frame rate counter. But if there’s a noticeable lag when entering your ID and logging in, it wouldn’t be due to video settings. Your problem might stem from a bug in the game code, possibly related to file handling or network communication.
1 percent lows affect performance
even with first generation Ryzen, the AF chip isn't exceptional.
for 1080p you should aim for 5700x3d or Ryzen 7 5700x
for optimal upgrade options.
if you're using a stock cooler, it's recommended to upgrade to this model.

is the RAM a single stick of 16 DDR4 or two sticks of 8GB?
i can cap the fps at 120 but then the game feels like it's running on 60hz even when capped at 121-130
there isn't really a difference until 350-400 and that's what's confusing me
someone mentioned 1% lows though—how significant are they?
1 percent lows are more significant than the actual highest speed. These lows indicate the sluggishness you're experiencing, even if the frame rate is high. For instance, if the 1 percent lows occur under 30 frames, you may notice stuttering and jittering. Slow memory on the CPU can also cause latency problems. The best RAM for DDR4 Ryzen systems is 3200mhz CL16, as a smaller CL16 value is preferable. If both sticks are identical, they might have been sold together in a kit.
