Typically Battlefield 3 operates at 120fps, but recently I observed it running at 80fps which felt inconsistent and stood out because I’m accustomed to 144hz. Nowadays it’s dropping to under 40fps. I’m using a GTX Titan X Superclocked with a Core i7 4770.

That seems unusual, as these problems usually relate to thermal throttling, yet the thermal readings appear normal.

Have you reviewed any additional benchmarks? Just to confirm whether it's BF or your configuration.

Consider comparing against similar projects or platforms to gauge performance. Valley could be a solid starting point.
