Hey everyone, organizing a group game night is exciting! I'm having trouble picking a suitable game since I need something free-to-play with multiplayer options under $10. My current setup includes: me – open-ended and powerful; Windows 2 – gaming laptop with 1650; Windows 4 – M2 8-core; 2018 MBP (Iris Plus 655, no dedicated GPU). Our graphics performance is decent for the price range. JackBox was a favorite but feels outdated. What do you all think?

Considered retro titles with LAN multiplayer. It's been ten years since we last did that, but friends and I recently loaded up old games from our youth (UT99, Diablo 2, Serious Sam 2, etc.) and played them together. The main point is that these old games are generally affordable to obtain and should run smoothly on today’s hardware, even laptops. Some of them also offered cooperative play in certain modes, allowing you to team up in games like Borderlands 1 or Diablo 2.

I appreciate your direction, though only two of us identify as gamers. It’s been a challenge with many titles that feel too complex for casual play. We mostly enjoy FPS games, with just one "Gamer" and three who prefer Animal Crossing. Originally we wanted something similar to Overcooked 2—simple, easy to run—but the iGPU limits are starting to be a problem.

Modern free-to-play titles often struggle on MacOS or older GPUs. I explored options like Worms, which had a simpler idea and should work on any device if everyone plays together. It doesn’t need to be a high-fidelity shooter or classic RTS; the core gameplay remains enjoyable once graphics are simplified. Checking GOG, I noticed some appealing multiplayer games with bots, perfect for casual sessions. Prices are currently under $2. Another classic, Diablo, is still accessible despite its age and limited features. If you prefer something light like Animal Crossing, there’s little room for new experiences.

Flatout 2 remains a solid choice, it's a demolition derby with a humorous twist. Heroes of Might and Magic (three copies) is also easygoing and doesn't demand fast reflexes. What do you think about Among Us or something similar? Absolutely, Worms is a great pick too.

I need to admit I completely missed this game before. I’ll take a closer look and see if it’s worth checking out. If there was a 5-way Battleship style game, it could be ideal. Most of the Switch players usually have a gaming night with Mario Kart and it’s really fun. It’ll also be cool if someone else joins soon, making those nights even more exciting. Updated: I might have discovered some enjoyable browser games here!

The game is Worms, supporting up to six teams in a turn-based format with fast play. It works online, via network, or on one computer. The idea is straightforward yet offers depth to keep things engaging beyond just a few minutes. I suggest Worms Armageddon or Worldparty, though I’m not sure about the latest versions.

The key issue is whether it's possible to host it in a multiplayer online room across various devices.

What's next? It's still functional even if it's quite old. After searching through many guides online, I found helpful discussions and setup instructions: https://worms2d.info/Hosting_Guide and https://steamcommunity.com/app/217200/di...5066030381. Still unsure about using it on a Macbook though.
