Hello to all readers. After setting up a PC for my family, my brother always gets a random restart while playing games. The GPU temperatures rarely reach 60-80 degrees, so I’m sure it’s not overheating. I’ve replaced both the GPU and RAM, but the issue persists. Updating drivers and Windows hasn’t fixed it either. My best thought is the CPU might be faulty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (Part list follows in the next section.) Thanks.

Your GPU performance is fine. How about your CPU temperatures?

Did you verify the CPU temperatures? Are the thermal pads sufficient and in good condition? Which operating system is active?

Initially, a 5600X might operate a bit hot for that board. They usually run above 80°C without stock coolers. Improving the cooler could help. Also, are you using at least the 1202 BIOS? Additionally, I've noticed Ryzen and compatible boards can be inconsistent with RAM, sometimes refusing certain kits. Match your RAM SKU to this guide for the Prime B550M-K. If it doesn't appear, it might be related, though not necessarily. My 5900X had severe problems for months before @BiotechBen offered a solution. The same issue showed up on a Zen 2 with DIMMs from my original setup. Kits listed on each board's QVL resolved both problems. Consider turning off sleep mode—possibly it's not just Ryzens, but they definitely avoid it. Updated January 19, 2023 by An0maly_76 Added info

I haven’t looked them over since I used the stock cooler and thought it would be fine without overclocking. I’ll double-check later.

I just installed the stock cooler with pre-applied thermal paste. I thought the CPU temperatures would stay normal without overclocking, and it's running on Windows 10. I'll monitor the CPU temps.

Thanks for your reply. Since the CPU is using a stock cooler, I’m considering getting an air cooler like Noctua. Before purchasing, please verify the case size and dimensions to ensure compatibility.

Noctua and Scythe are solid choices. My 5900X runs around mid-high 30s idle and hits low 70s maxes. The 3600X climbs in the low-mid 60s. DeepCool and Thermalright deliver decent cooling. The Peerless Assassin is a solid budget option, but I swapped it for an Assassin after seeing the bracket setup. I ordered a Mugen 5S instead—much simpler to install. They could try identifying the root cause before purchasing a new CPU cooler. (Upgrading a standard cooler is usually a solid choice when funds permit)

reviewing the CPU temperatures today shows 60°C while idle and 70°C during gaming. It hasn’t crashed yet, though I remember a hotter day yesterday when it failed. Checking the Noctua website helped me understand the situation. Thanks a lot! I didn’t realize it was the cooler model we got.
