Game issues in Fallout 4
Hi everyone. I'm facing a problem where Fallout 4 randomly crashes after a few minutes. It doesn't show any error messages, just closes the game on my desktop. I've checked everything I can find online, thinking it might be related to the monitor refresh rate around 60Hz. I tried setting the frame rate to 60 and disabling Gsync, but nothing helped. The game still crashes. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure where to adjust Particle Physics settings, but it's unclear. My system specs are: i5-12600K, 3070ti, 16GB DDR4. The monitor is a Dell 27-inch with 165Hz Gsync.
I play Fallout 4 at 120fps. Above 60fps jumping becomes harder but that’s the main problem. Are you using mods or exceeding build limits? The game is sensitive to VRAM and crashes often happen near settlements like Red Rocket and Sanctuary. Like in Skyrim, NPCs usually cause crashes when too many are present. One too many leads to a crash. Other issues arise when NPCs act unexpectedly. I stopped using power armor in settlements because some raiders will jump into it and trigger a crash. If a settler, Minute Man or Brotherhood NPC enters, there’s no crash. Windows dislikes this behavior. The game will crash or behave erratically when Windows is handling it. You can tell a crash is coming before the CPU fans speed up. As saves age, they demand more resources, especially during spikes. The number of NPCs matters a lot; I have roughly 10x more than vanilla, which drains resources quickly. Spoiler: it’s all about NPC count.
