I include a non-steam game in Steam, enabling client streaming. I stream to the client, but I can't press any key to continue. The issue seems to occur on the host side.

Steam stream seems to be the intended title, not "Stream stream." Let me know if you'd like help refining it further!

Other than Steam, there are no games available. Any game you try to add through a shortcut won't function.

Have you explored the alternative? Open a Steam game, dim it down, and start the non-steam title you wish to play. It seems Steam at home is limited to games only. One method they use to retain users.
