Game freezes completely when launching. CPU usage reaches maximum.
performed a complete reset on my system after encountering problems. all software has been updated and reinstalled. recently began playing games, but they keep crashing with error messages. when launching a game, the CPU usage jumps to 100% before the crash occurs. tried various titles to check if it was the game itself, but it happened across all of them. need guidance on how to resolve this issue.
The error code was identified. Here’s the event viewer log from the crash. System specifications are available for reference.
I've experienced the same problem with the CPU not staying stable during overclocking. Do you have any overclocked components?
For instance, I'm attempting to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and encounter error code 0xC0000005 (0). The game prompts me to scan and repair the file before restarting, but it still crashes when starting or entering a lobby. This issue also appears in other titles, such as Overwatch 2, which fails to load the start screen.
Have this problem ever been resolved? I’ve been researching it for the past two days. Users with RTX 4090 and an i9 13900k (which I also own) report this issue frequently. MW2 and now MW3, Cyberpunk, Fortnite, The Finals, and other games all seem affected. In my case, Fortnite runs smoothly while the others don’t. I can also play titles like Apex Legends, CS2, Elden Ring, Lost Ark, and New World Diablo 4 without any trouble. If I skip downloading MW3, I won’t even notice it. My CPU and GPU temperatures stay normal; the system just crashes when launching these specific games. I can even hear the PC heating up then suddenly stopping. A tech-savvy friend suggested: Is there a simpler fix? Could it be related to adjusting CPU usage in the BIOS? Has anyone discovered a universal solution? (This appears to be a very common problem) I’ve also tried all the easier fixes mentioned—like Vram allocation, updating drives, changing NVDDIA settings, and updating BIOS MB.
Previously, fixing this problem in numerous games remained unresolved by the tech and gaming community. The usual solution involved installing Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) and reducing P cores by around 200-300 MHz, or even lowering it by two to three stops. Recently, it seems some games and Windows now handle workloads more effectively across P and E cores, which can cause unexpected crashes. I faced the same situation with a 4090 and an i9 13900K. Although this workaround still functions and should work for many affected titles (many users have reported similar issues with this setup), it’s frustrating to need to pay for an i9 13900K and run a separate program just to prevent crashes. Nevertheless, the latest Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.1.1 adds a hybrid CPU utilization feature that should resolve this without requiring any CPU downclocking. I hope this update brings relief and restores smoother gameplay.
