I've been searching for a car game with strong customisation options, mainly because I enjoy upgrading and noticing performance improvements as upgrades happen. Recently, I've been hoping for a title similar to Need For Speed 2 or Forza 2 on PC, where you could design and race your own cars while experiencing realistic changes over time. For a while now, I've been eager for such an experience. When Forza Horizon launched on PC, it excited me, but the car handling felt too simplistic and arcade-like. I tend to prefer more realistic controls, but most realistic games usually only offer limited customisation beyond paint and tires. Arcade-style racers often provide the best balance of fun and modifiability.

I've played a lot of project cars, but it didn<|pad|> to lack the elements that keep me engaged. If anyone has recommendations for car games like Forza Horizon or Project Cars where you can tweak and build cars without feeling too simplistic, I'd really appreciate it. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Sorry for the lengthy message and the poor grammar—this is the end.

You can tweak some elements like the suspension, ride height, brake bias, differences, gears, etc. But nothing as good as buying new parts—just making adjustments.

Need for speed Payback offers decent visual tweaks but the story falls flat and the controls feel overly simplistic. I only suggest it because it often drops for around $5. Beamng Drive lets you tweak pistons, differentials, bodywork, trailers, and accessories. The driving feels realistic, though it's a sandbox experience with no racing unless you use specific scenarios. It's essentially a free-roam game where you're the sole vehicle on the track (with optional AI).

The only match for this request is Project Cars 2. However, you'll need to overcome a significant learning curve or you won't finish the races, or at least you won't want to stop playing. Car games are designed to be fun and allow races to be completed. Project Cars 2 did an excellent job avoiding being too easy, making race completion a major accomplishment. It's also one of the most visually appealing car games available, even in VR.

You might have remembered its low price of just $12.49 at IndieGala in July, but you're unlikely to find it at that rate again. But you can still get it now for $14.99 before the sale ends...

Project Cars 2 for $14.99

It's only worthwhile if you're willing to tackle the learning curve I mentioned. If you can, the game's value ranges from $20 to $30.

I played project cars the original version for over 200 hours and really enjoyed its realism and handling. However, there was no customization beyond colors, tires, and I tried PC2 as well—it felt just like the first one, unless I missed something like a special game mode. I don’t think this matches what I was looking for, but I appreciate the time you took to reply and share this opportunity with me.

Welcome. It's hard to find a game that includes all these features, which is why I suggested Project Cars 2 as it covers several aspects well. You may discover a game with greater customization, but it won't be as realistic or focused on being a "car game" compared to Project Cars 2. There are still games like Forza 4, The Crew 2 and GTA 5 that offer a good mix but lean more toward open world experiences. If you're interested in modifying and building cars, consider a simulation game. There are many Car Sims available.

Forza Motorsport 7 is available at a good price if you find a solid deal, offering reasonable customization options.

Street Legal Redline offers great customization options, though the handling could be improved.

I checked it too, but in my country it begins above 1000 rand—about 70 USD—which is a lot. I don’t have that amount for a game, but I was curious about it as I used to play Forza 2 on Xbox. I remember you could buy things like a Honda Civic and customize it, and I really liked those titles. They felt more like simulations than arcade games, which was my preference.
