Hello Everyone, this is my first time posting and I’m dealing with a pretty odd problem I can’t solve yet. System details: 5800x Gigabyte B550 Aurora Ac Pro Mobo Corsair 32GB, 3600MHz RAM, 4070 OC MSI, two Samsung NVMe drives plus a 120GB Samsung SSD connected via an AIO. Under heavy gaming load, temps stay around 50-65°C. Power supply is a 1000W MSI 3.0 unit (previously I used a 4090 but it became obsolete, so I upgraded). Operating system is Windows 11 Pro.
Since last week, I’ve noticed random freezes in games where CPU and GPU usage spikes to near zero or very high levels—sometimes the whole thing freezes for 1-2 seconds before resuming normally. I’ve logged frame times and load patterns, and it seems they happen at consistent intervals now. It only occurs with certain titles like GTA V, Star Citizen, and MSFS so far.
I’ve tried everything: unplugged all USBs except mouse and keyboard (even older ones), checked every connection, reinstalled Windows from scratch, moved to Windows 23H2, upgraded to Windows 24H2, and even ran 3DMark with no issues. No overclocking, no stress tests, and I’ve run multiple checks.
I updated drivers and tested some older graphics drivers just in case. I’ve attached a screenshot of the system behavior and one 3DMark result for reference. Hope someone can help! This setup has worked well for about two years now.

Thanks for the update. Initially, I cleared the drivers using DDU and everything worked until last Friday. Then I tried a different driver and everything remained stable. After installing Windows this Sunday, all drivers were removed, but the issue continues.
I haven't modified any hardware. I think Windows received an update in the 23H2 release, along with security patches and a GPU driver fix. That's all the software changes until I performed a fresh installation and re-downloaded the drivers. I also tried using DDU and reverting to an older GPU driver, which was my first idea. The new 24H2 install was different, but the issue continued in both versions.
Have you verified them by moving them again? Do you possess the uncommon skill to evaluate your components on another system, such as a GPU?
Do you have another GPU to test and check if the problem continues? Are there other PCs where you can install this 4070? Is the issue limited to gaming or does it also affect other tasks? I experienced a similar problem with an old Zotac board long ago. It took a long time to figure out the faulty NIC, so disabling it in BIOS resolved it. Have you explored using a different PCIe slot? Consider lowering your GPU’s clock speed with Afterburner—turn off a portion of Core Clock and/or VRAM memory clock.
Given it still happens after a re-install, I have to wonder if some software/driver is causing it. I had a similar problem once with a stutter exactly every minute in all software. In my case it was eventually tracked down to Intel DSA going bad. Reinstalled it, and fine. Finding it was tricky, but in the end I looked at Task Manager, sorted by CPU usage, highest first. Then I waited for it to happen. Bingo! Maybe trying that could give a clue as to the cause.
