Game crash and close to desktop issue.
I recently purchased Forza Horizon 3 but was surprised by its performance. Upon starting the game, it frequently crashed right after the "Turn 10 Studio" logo. Someone suggested using the Apps and Features menu to reset the game, which helped temporarily. However, it still crashed during the intro race when I tried to rewind. I’m looking for reliable solutions or fixes for this issue. If I can’t progress past the intro race, it would be disappointing. I’m also concerned about the refund policy since this was my first purchase on the Win10 MS Store.
The logo crash issue appears resolved, but now you're facing even more severe problems. Occasionally, the game crashes completely, causing both monitors to go black—sometimes displaying static or other visual artifacts. You’re forced to restart your system or power it down until it stops. Your GPU is significantly over its specifications, and it’s an AMD RX 580. You’re checking the Windows Event Viewer, but you’re unsure which logs will help identify the root cause of these crashes.
I face the same issue too, and I also have an AMD RX 580 GPU. When I look at RAM usage, the game is using 16GB of RAM, which is unusual. I believe there might be a bug in the game where it consumes your PC's RAM instead of GPU VRAM, causing crashes. You're not alone—don't worry!
Some AMD drivers cause issues. Many claimed they were more reliable than NVIDIA drivers, but that doesn’t hold up in practice. Minor glitches often appear with certain programs. This problem hasn’t occurred on any of my NVIDIA GPUs.
I own an AMD RX 580 Sapphire Special Edition. Forza Horizon 4 is working smoothly without any issues, but Forza Horizon 3 is consuming all of my 16GB RAM and failing to launch. AMD has presented me with several driver problems, such as a situation where my GPU would reach maximum core clock after using certain apps (even after closing them), causing overheating around 60°C unless I rebooted or disabled the AMD DRIVER EXE. I think this bug is now resolved. My NVIDIA GTX 980 performed well and never caused any frustrating problems. However, in terms of performance, I’m very satisfied with the RX 580. I’m not seeking a conflict, just sharing my personal experience with AMD GPUs, which have been unreliable lately. My NVIDIA GTX 980 EVGA FTW Edition unfortunately stopped working because of a watercooler leak.
The issue centers around the game, not the driver. See the link from my previous post. Most users are nVidia fans... Whenever I use an nVidia card, problems arise. Some claim AMD is unreliable and nVidia often causes issues, which might explain why you overlook your own problems. In certain situations, reinstalling the driver or the game itself can resolve many issues. Generally, the main problem lies with the game, though Windows might also contribute. In short, it's a poor gaming console experience. Have you tried removing and reinstalling the game? That often helps too. I faced a similar problem with a Windows Store game—deleted it, reinstalled, and everything worked again. But the store seems slow and unreliable to me.
