I recently upgraded from a 3500 to a 5700x. My idle temperatures sit between 31-34°C, but under load they rise to 70-72°C. The older 3500 had comparable idle temps but was 10-12°C cooler during load. I'm using the same CPU cooler (AK620) and thermal paste (MX4), with no changes to BIOS. Is it typical for the newer model to show higher idle temps? Also, the AIDA64 stress test shows 65-67°C versus 53-55°C for the 3500. The current room temperature is around 28.5°C. Edited February 20, 2024 by Tech Reprise Added aida temperatures
Yes, it stays under the 90°C limit set by AMD, and it doesn't jump by a big 10-15°C compared to the prior generation. The 5xxx models tend to get hotter than the 3xxx ones. There are also Reddit discussions with similar questions.
The 5700x offers better performance compared to the 3500. Although it may share the same power density, it houses more cores within a smaller space. Maintaining a stable temperature is ideal, and a slight rise in heat during a new generation is typical.
