G3258 won't go past 4.5GHz
Hi, with my G3258 I attempt to overclock to 4.6GHz-4.7GHz, but it doesn't respond. Is there a specific cause for this issue? I'm currently running at 4.4GHz and 1.245V since 4.5GHz at 1.25V was unstable and only lasted about a minute on prime95. I'm using a standard cooler and at my current temperature I reach around 70°C, possibly up to 75°C in a hot room.
which board are you running?
certain chips simply can't handle extreme overclocking. it's known as the silicon lottery. you might have missed out.
What board are you working with?
Some chips aren't suited for high overclocks, which is known as the silicon lottery. You might have missed out.
I'm using an MSi Z97 PC Mate. Also, I want to mention that I've already overclocked this CPU to 4.6GHz at 1.26V, but I reduced it later due to temperature issues and it became a bit unstable.
Loubot1 is seeking advice on why his G3258 isn't reaching the desired overclock speeds. He mentions using 4.4GHz at 1.245V and notes instability issues. He also shares that his current temperature reaches around 70°C, possibly higher in a hot room. He seeks understanding about the chip's limitations and voltage requirements.
Hi, with my G3258 I attempt to overclock to 4.6GHz-4.7GHz using whatever voltage I can, but it doesn’t work. Is there a specific cause for this issue. I’m currently running at 4.4GHz at 1.245V because 4.5GHz at 1.25V was unstable and only lasted about a minute on prime95.
I’m using a standard cooler and at my current settings I reach around 70°C, possibly up to 75°C in a hot room. Thanks.
That’s the limit of your chip. My G3258 actually struggles more. It requires 1.37V for 4.5GHz and higher speeds are unrealistic. It’s designed for 3.2GHz, so sometimes you just get what you receive.
Yeah, I’m content with my present overclock but wanted to understand why it can’t go further.
