I was assisting a friend with his G3258 overclock and learned it can be done with this motherboard. I checked the advanced BIOS settings but couldn't adjust the voltage or clock speed. I disabled and enabled various options without changing the auto settings for clock and voltage. I also used Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, which didn't unlock the overclocking.
I also attempted a BIOS flash update to a leaked overclockable version.

That's a poor chipset I wouldn't try unless I were you, it could cause damage.
The person mentioned using the same CPU and motherboard in their cheaper build suggestion:

I'm with dan on this one. It's an H81 board, so overclocking is basically turned off by design and the hardware isn't built for that. Also, it's a 50 dollar board—even if it could be overclocked without tricks and used a Z87 chip, it wouldn't actually handle it because it's just a cheap build.

I'm with dan on this one. The board is an H81, which means overclocking is not possible due to its design and the cost involved. Even if it had a Z87 chip, it wouldn't be suitable for overclocking. Is there still any chance to achieve that?

You can overclock it by using the same board; I achieved 4.0ghz. Could you let me know how you did it? I’m having trouble finding instructions online, and I’m on Windows 7 with the latest update—maybe I made a mistake. Are there any BIOS settings I should adjust to unlock the multiplier? I’ve tried everything else except changing other options.
