The 750 Ti performed adequately in the Digital Foundry video, even without an overclock. However, I concur that the Pentium will face challenges.
He wasn’t really interested in what he was doing—just playing Fallout 4 with a G3258 and quietly using a 280. If you have the chance, a quad-core processor would be better, especially when building a new system. I’ve seen people use an i5-4690 or a used 280 for this kind of setup. Just make sure your power supply is from a trusted brand with enough wattage, around 500 watts should work well. If you’re only planning to run it casually, you can do that too, but don’t expect high settings to run smoothly.
I’d purchase the $190 i5-4590, a $20 RAM stick, a $210 R9 380 4GB, and then you’d have $80 remaining to invest in a decent 550W power supply if you’re aiming to spend every penny on upgrading your setup. I’m not sure how to handle the Pentium and 750 Ti either—my guess is your parents wouldn’t want you listing them on Craigslist with strangers showing up. You might try selling them on eBay. If you’re okay with a 30 fps setup, an overclocked G3258 and a 750 Ti can work together, so I’d skip anything else except boosting your RAM to 8GB.
