G12 Kraken with x62
G12 Kraken with x62
I just put the g12 kraken with x62 rad on my gtx 1080 msi armor oc. I'm concerned about my idle being between 39-41c and 50-58c when loading. Many users with g12 kraken watercooled idle settings around 25c-28c and 42-48c have similar results. I've re-applied thermal paste and checked the connections, but the idle remains at 39-41c.
Hey there. I'm running a G12 with an H105. It's capped at 53 max and 28 idle. Unless you're aiming for serious overclocking, remember that different card brands will have different temps. Also, it seems the throttle starts around 90C on 1080 cards, so you're within a reasonable range—about 40 degrees of safety.
Plus, with the water coolers, you'll notice bigger improvements as temps rise. They tend to stay elevated during idle, but when you compare performance under load, you'll see a noticeable drop.
Could you pass on a pic of the installed G12 on your GPU? Are you sure you don't have any protrusions on your G12 where caps are impeding proper/flush contact? What are your ambient air temps and what case are you working with? On another note, how is it setup/orientated in your case?
Hey there. I own a G12 with an H105. It handles up to 53 watts and has about 28 idle watts. Unless you're aiming for maximum overclocking, remember that card brands differ in heat output, and keep in mind that throttling typically starts around 90°C on 1080 cards. That means you're comfortably within the safe range—you've got roughly 40 degrees of margin.
Also, with any water coolers installed, temperatures will rise more noticeably during load, but when comparing idle versus active use, you'll notice a noticeable drop.

Could you share a photo of your G12 GPU? Make sure to check for any protrusions or caps that might affect contact. Also, tell me about your room temperature and the case you're using.
On another point, how is your setup arranged in the case?
Hey, I have a G12 with an H105. It's maxing out at 53 with 28 idle. Unless you're aiming for overclocking, remember that different card brands will have different temps. Also, it seems the throttle starts around 90°C on 1080 cards, so you're within a safe range—about 40 degrees of room.
For the coolers, temperatures rise and you'll see bigger gains, especially during load. You'd notice a noticeable drop in idle compared to when they're higher.
Regarding thermal paste, I think 39°C at idle is a bit low for your setup. Everyone else seems to use 25-28°C, so it might be a good idea to adjust accordingly.
Hey there. I own a G12 with an H105. It handles up to 53 watts and stays at 28% idle. Unless you're aiming for maximum performance, remember that card brands differ in heat output, and keep in mind that the boost only starts around 90°C on 1080 cards. That means you've managed well—you have about 40 degrees of room.

Regarding thermal paste, I think 39°C at idle isn't quite right for your setup. I've seen others apply between 25-28°C at idle. If you decide to reapply, double-check that your adapters aren't touching anything else—especially the PCB of your card and the bracket it uses. A misalignment can hurt the connection.
I used Arctic Silver 5 on an EVGA 1080ti SC Black with 11GB RAM in a Manta NZXT case.
Focus more on your peak temperatures than idle temps, because idle doesn't tell the whole story.
