FX series CPUs perform exceptionally well because they are built with high-performance components and optimized for gaming workloads. Some Celeron D models also climb the rankings due to their efficient power management and solid performance in specific tasks, as noted by hwbot.

They were constructed quite differently :p. Honestly, it was mostly just a matter of luck in the manufacturing process. The more straightforward the better.

Thinks back to those times when the Celeron 300 could handle 450 MHz easily.

High-performance chips that work well even in cold conditions. I've tested some running above 8GHz, which is really enjoyable. Next week I plan to use them for TC at the bot again, and I have a lot of tasks ahead before it wraps up.

I recall my P3 500 MHz chip that handled 1GHz. The issue seems linked to the binning method and how much Intel and AMD are advancing their processors compared to earlier models. Modern high-end parts are being squeezed nearer to their limits, so big overclock percentages aren't as common anymore.

For chips still being manufactured, the OC percentage achieved isn't as high as it once was, though reaching 100%+ remains typical for some newer models compared to older ones. The best verified chips that hit this are the older AMD Socket A "Geode" variants, which can push OC to 200%+ depending on board and configuration. At least five units have reached 200% or more, including the Geode NX 1500 and another model achieving a staggering 341% OC. zafiropo's CPU Frequency score stands at 2946.47 MHz with a Geode NX 1250 @ 6W, and I've achieved 137% on my FX when I set the WR for maximum clock speed in a benchmark. This performance is more realistic than what you'd expect from CPU-Z alone. It's hard to imagine seeing such high percentages with the chips currently in production, especially as newer releases are on the horizon.
