I'm having trouble getting my AMD FX-8300 to run stably overclocked. I've been using AMD Overdrive but haven't found a consistent clock speed. The motherboard shows 3.30GHZ while Windows says 4GHZ. I'm worried about the situation and whether I've damaged my CPU. Since I mostly play games like GTA V, CS:GO, and Dead by Daylight, I'm not sure if overclocking is necessary. My current specs are: motherboard MSI 970A SLI Krait Edition, 8GB G.Skill Sniper RAM, and an EVGA 1060 GTX SC with 3GB VRAM.

You likely don't need to OC. However, outcomes from any OC attempts will differ based on your actions. Reset everything to the default configuration in AOD. Begin by turning off turbo mode. Gradually raise the multiplier one click at a time, checking for stability and thermal space before each change. If instability appears, adjust the vcore slightly at a minimal step. Avoid exceeding 1.5V.

I still don't grasp how to perform a stability test for your CPU, so you kept it idle. It appears to run well in games like ARK. I think Turbo Boost might be the answer right now. Thanks.
