Hello, based on your description, it seems the issue might not be with the CPU itself but rather how the system is configured. Even though you have an 8-core processor, the Task Manager only displays 4 cores—this could be due to settings in MSConfig or other software affecting core allocation. Your note about threads being 8 and changes made there suggests you're managing resources intentionally. It’s worth double-checking those settings to ensure they match your expectations.

On the processor, two cores work together using shared resources, so they aren't completely independent. AMD marketed them as having eight cores but faced a legal dispute, forcing them to label it as four cores with eight threads. Think of a promising concept for hardware-based hyperthreading that wasn't fully realized and came about a decade too soon.

This is standard AMD design with weak promotion.

They claim they were defeated in court and must refer to them as a 4-core CPU, but their website contradicts this statement.

It took 12 years to understand it was an 8-thread chip?

The FX lineup from that era fell short. It lagged significantly behind releases from the previous year, even in well-designed builds. While it could compete with i5s at the time, it wasn’t ideal for a budget renderer. It served its role for about a year or two before being swapped out for more affordable options. Generally newer than the FX but still outperformed the 8320. By the time they discontinued it, it was likely outdated.

Hey, I get it—you're not exactly like those early tech folks from back then. I didn’t really dive into PC hardware much, so I can’t really jump to conclusions about AMD or anything. Let’s chat if you want!
