FX 6300 4.0GHz OC Questions
FX 6300 4.0GHz OC Questions
I investigated overclocking via BIOS and discovered the voltage options I have. I can't just input a value; I must adjust it using the + or - controls. I set it to 1.41V, configured the multiplier for 4.0GHz, turned turbo off, and left LLC at normal. After loading, I ran 10 minutes of small FFTs in P95 without issues, with a peak temperature of 48°C. I have a few observations to share.
1.44V is unusually high for a 4.2 GHz overclock. Consider using a higher clock speed with the same voltage and monitor it with HWmonitor or CPU-Z to see if voltage drops occur under load. At this level, the chip might reach 4.3-4.4+ GHz. With that H60 model, you could likely raise the voltage to 1.5V and achieve around 4.8 GHz. The FX 9590 operates at 4.7 GHz with a 120mm cooler as well. Source: My FX 4350. Previously stable at 5 GHz @1.632V, now degraded. Avoid exceeding 1.50-1.55V. EDIT: Fluctuations in your voltage might be causing the need for higher voltages. Increase the LLC to Medium and test with 1.475V for 4.5-4.6.
