Non-official Chrome OS versions such as Cloud Ready might continue to exist due to their flexibility and niche appeal. The original Chrome OS could maintain relevance by adapting to evolving user needs and technological shifts.

I refer to the cloud services associated with Windows 10, or similar platforms like ChromeOS alternatives.

cloud ready runs on Chromium OS, which is built for Chromium-based systems. Windows 10 cloud or Chrome OS might not be the best choice, so sticking with full Windows or macOS X seems more practical.

Cloud-ready! I clarified that you were asking if non-official Chrome OS versions have a future. I was puzzled about what you meant, so I made sure the capital letters stood out to avoid confusion between a typo and an actual software name.

ChromeOS works best in academic settings. The main challenge for most schools is limited IT budgets. Even private institutions (which often aim to meet parent expectations, especially around Apple products) struggle with financial constraints. This limits hiring skilled IT professionals—usually just one person, sometimes even combining A/V duties.

When budgets are tight, IT staff often lack proper training, leading to weak security and compatibility issues with Windows. Many rely on outdated VB scripts written by previous staff, which don’t meet modern standards and can cause problems.

Some schools attempted iPad adoption with government funding or Apple promotions, hoping more educational apps would appear. But the experience was poor: clunky interfaces, high costs, and outdated content. Teachers weren’t tech-savvy enough to integrate it effectively, and the learning curve was steep.

ChromeOS offers a simpler, more secure alternative, but it still faces hurdles—especially with Android app restrictions and content limitations. Windows 10 Cloud could work better since it’s more familiar to staff, but school needs are still unclear.

The main issue remains: schools often prioritize short-term fixes over long-term solutions, leaving them reliant on outdated systems. The future hinges on better support, clearer policies, and more relevant educational tools.

I often discuss this topic, and I believe it might work as a replacement for Windows in some cases. For others, it can be used alongside Ubuntu through dual booting.
