Future games are expected to increasingly utilize 4GB of VRAM, with many aiming for higher capacities. Since you own a GTX 970, you may need to consider upgrading once it reaches its performance limits or when newer titles demand more memory.

The 970 features 3.5 GB of VRAM, not 4. That's a common point of confusion.

The 970 includes 3.5GB of fast VRAM and 0.5GB of slow VRAM... that adds up to 4GB total.

I don’t need to be concerned about the 4GB—my system handles 2GB on my 760s and runs 3D at 1440P without any problems. It’s just maxing out the VRAM without any issues.

The slow .5 bottleneck affects the GPU performance. It has 4 cores, but only 3.5 are usable.

0.5 remains acceptable, but avoid employing it.
