For me, it’s simple to stop playing games. I often keep going until I have to, then need to leave quickly. I dislike when games force me through many menus just to quit. Right now I use Task Manager, but it feels complicated. I usually have to go through several steps—close the game, exit multiplayer, return to main menu, click close, confirm, and finally shut down the launcher. The biggest issue is World of Warships, which has a confusing design when trying to quit. After pressing ESC, the “continue” button looks much bigger than the “quit” button.
Alt+F4 isn't just for copying gold you left behind in Runescape—it's frustrating too. I often worry about people accidentally quitting the game when they meant to stay (like the old scam examples). The biggest annoyance is website logins. The sign-up button stands out, but the login option is tucked inside a hidden menu or something similar.
In OP's explanation, certain games have issues that don't close properly with Alt+F4. Unreal Tournament 2004 is a notable example—it changes to third-person view when you press Alt+F4 instead of exiting to the desktop. Likely, someone tried to promote this feature to a few unaware players, but it didn’t gain much traction.
Launchers are problematic. They should disappear completely. A few years back I downloaded the entire Bioshock collection for free on the Epic Games platform. It would install another launcher, and opening any of those games from Epic would automatically launch the next one, creating a chain reaction. There was also an incident with Titanfall 2 or Need for Speed—similar behavior. Purchased them on sale via Steam, which then launched the EA version, again redirecting traffic. Why hide your own games in another virtual store when they can simply connect back to your own store?
