You shouldn't be able to, though occasionally it happens. Regarding the method, I don't understand anything at all. From what I've seen, it seems to happen by chance.

Occasionally it functions. Regardless of success or failure, just inform Microsoft about the board failure and your replacement request. They'll provide you with a fresh license.

It seems the issue isn't resolved. I've attempted it multiple times—once with my sister's Dell laptop key on a Windows 7 machine, and another time using a random OEM key from a friend.
