I need a durable outer box for my ONT, to shield it from the weather. Since I’m not finding much online, any suggestions or links would be really helpful!
Amazon offers a solid beginning, yet for more tailored advice consider contacting a nearby electrical specialist.
No WiFi available in the box—just the modem. The router stays inside. The fiber coming into my house is on the opposite side from where the routers are now. My copper phone line enters the house side, goes into the garage, and splits to the outlets around. I’m avoiding visible wires everywhere and keeping holes minimal. I was thinking about placing the ONT in the garage where the fiber arrives, then running an Ethernet cable through the floor to a bedroom and putting the router there. The spot for the hole won’t have power, so it’s not ideal to run the fiber line through carpet there.
When it’s in the garage it doesn’t need to be completely waterproof. A garage isn’t meant for outdoor use—it’s just unheated. Just switch to another option.
Yeah I know it doesn’t have to be water tight. I just wanted it to be somewhat a good seal. As my garage isn’t insulated. So can get fairly cold in the UK. So didn’t want it to effect the modem
The UK experiences mild temperatures, and even with a banana cold, it’s not a big deal. It’s known for being damp, but if your garage stays dry, it won’t cause much trouble. Severe cold can impact electronics through thermal shrinkage, though this is rare in the UK.
I wouldn't expect the airflow to be very efficient, it might cause overheating of the ONT. It's also not advised to disconnect the optical cable since you need to keep it dust-free. Are you available for service right now? As with current installations, most use the small ONT similar to a phone socket, so this might be unnecessary.
I believe you're referring to the older Huawei installation that includes a network cabinet. Current setups use the newer Nokia unit, which is compact and mounted directly to the wall. If you're seeking a cabinet, options like this one are available: https://www.network-cabs.co.uk/acatalog/..._4U_G.html
