I've configured explicit TLS access on my WD MyCloudEX2Ultra. From my PC I can connect via FileZilla on the local network, but external access isn't working despite port forwarding on the router. I tried the site https://ftptest.net and encountered an error: "Error: Carriage return without line feed received." The replies from your server are not compliant with FTP standards—upgrade to a proper server would be necessary. I'm unsure how to resolve this since there aren't many solutions listed online.

It's interesting how FTP with TLS stands out. Many prefer SCP or SFTP instead.

Your internet service provider might also be restricting the port.

It doesn't appear your NAS is compatible with those settings, but thank you for bringing it up!

They’re using virgin media, and their blocked port list shows no issues.

Wow, nice job WD, it seems SFTP and SCP is indeed not worth the risk as they only allow it for the root user because WD clearly haven't a clue what they are doing. So back to FTP over TLS, did you forward both port 990( TCP /UDP) for control and port 989( TCP /UDP) for data on your router to the NAS? There's also some mention of passive ports at https://community.wd.com/t/filezilla-ftp-over-tls/98598
