During winter I frequently encounter static issues at home. I remind myself to touch the light switch before handling my computer, but often overlook it at first. When connecting USB drives or other devices to the front ports, I sometimes experience strong static discharges (I can observe them). My computer has never stopped functioning or shown any issues afterward, fortunately. This also occurs when using headphones (the audio jack is adjacent to the front ports). My instinct suggests this could be extremely problematic for a computer. Since the front ports don’t touch any metal in the case, the discharge must reach the motherboard. Should I take additional steps to minimize this risk, or is the motherboard equipped to handle it? My computer is connected to a grounded outlet (verified). Thanks.
