From AM3 to AM5
From AM3 to AM5
Hi folks. It's been some time since I upgraded my PC. My last build was on the AM3 platform and it bit the dust 2 days into being furloughed from work at the height of the human malware virus. So I have had no PC for a while untill now. My new build is .. 7600x. Asrock X670e Pro. 32gb DDR 5 Corsair vengeance RGB 5600mt. Deepcool castle 360 V2 AIO Be quite straight power 11 1000w. No graphics card ( waiting on AMDs December releases to see how the market prices go) 4000d airflow case. This is a completely new learning curve for me,and I feel that there are tweaks / settings I should be enabling/ disabling to get the most out of it. Understandably most of the guides I have found are for zen 3 . Are these guides pretty much relevant to zen 4 also? Or is it a different kettle of fish? Cheers.
It seems you're referring to the early memory optimization phase during setup. The initial POST on your build can take 10 to 15 minutes as the system fine-tunes RAM speed and timing for stability. Keep in mind the phrase "Be quite straight power" highlights how a small typo can significantly affect the feel of a product name.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Are you seeking guidance on hardware or software adjustments? If it’s hardware, there are several improvements possible—like choosing a better CPU. You might achieve higher performance at a lower cost by selecting an Intel processor. Of course, this depends on your local prices. If you need help with BIOS settings, there aren’t really many changes to make; most configurations are already optimized. You should expect XMP (or AMD’s equivalent) to be enabled automatically, which sets RAM speed and timings to their rated values. That specific CPU doesn’t officially support 5600MT/s RAM, so it will run at around 5200MT/s from the start. This change is likely only a small boost and could introduce some instability. Keep that in mind when planning. Generally, motherboard manufacturers include optimal settings right out of the box.
The hardware was removed from packaging and revised its claim, showing that a 7600X with DDR5 offers better worth compared to the 13600K, even with DDR4.
You were aiming for more updates on the motherboard and Ryzen Master. It sounds like everything works smoothly now. I purchased the 7600X for £295 and the motherboard for £290, using vouchers to save money. I also had the 7900X but returned it for the 7600X, which gave me funds to buy three additional components for my setup. A GPU and a monitor are still missing. The 3D graphics SKU caught my attention because of its popularity among gamers. Choosing the new AM5 platform felt like a future move rather than an immediate decision—it's a risk I think is worth taking. Thanks for your response.
Consider investing more now in a platform designed for future upgrades. It aligns with my expectations. I chose the opposite path and ended up with an AM4 unit at the end of its lifecycle—everything is well-established and most issues are resolved, ensuring long-term stability for my system. For a dedicated gaming rig, the 7600X or a 3D version would stand out to me, though I’d prefer more processing power for video editing. Additionally, I secured my 5950X at a reduced price; in fact, I saved money compared to its current market value.
