From 1440p to 4K monitors, performance and other aspects.
Hi
I have a 1440p monitor and an RTX 4070 graphics card. It’s working fine, but I want a smoother 4K experience.
The issue is… I’m just a casual gamer, so the 4K would mainly be for better windows, apps, and text clarity.
But it wouldn’t hurt to try running a few games in native 4K if possible.
How much will upgrading from 1440p to 4K actually affect FPS, heat output, and noise?
I’ve already optimized my graphics card to reduce heat and noise. I appreciate that.
I think I could handle 1080p upscaled to 4K in some games, as long as the image remains clear and not too blurry.
Some people say upscaling makes things look worse than native 1080p, while others claim it improves it. Which is true?
Thanks!
To provide an accurate assessment, please share your CPU model along with details about the motherboard, power supply, RAM, and other relevant system specs. Additionally, let us know your current GPU and CPU utilization rates while playing at 1440p, as this will help predict performance on 4K resolution. Also, include the temperatures of both the CPU and GPU for a complete overview.
Updated
Received the 4K monitor
Performance in 4K is acceptable so far
The computer needs to handle more work, which increases heat and fan noise
Adjusting settings can help, lowering certain parameters
For games that struggle with FPS, upscaling to 1080p offers a viable alternative
I believe using "integer scaling" would be ideal
If a game doesn't perform well in 4K, it would still run smoothly and appear decent at 1080p
This is still theoretical and untested
