Hi everyone, today my PC kept crashing and I ran a benchmark which pointed to a GPU issue. After opening the card, I saw a scorch mark on the heatsink and a burnt paste dot on the chip that didn’t come off. I cleaned it up as much as possible, reapplied the paste, and turned it back on. The system still works for simple tasks like Discord and YouTube, but games freeze and display glitches. The main concern is whether the GPU can be fixed—either myself or someone more experienced.

It looks like a damaged GPU. When the core gets destroyed in that way, it’s essentially a dead core that needs replacement. Unless it’s an EVGA model, it won’t be covered under warranty, making the cost pretty high.

You need to exert more effort to remove it. The temperature is rising rapidly.

I've never encountered anything similar before. My best idea is that the small scratch on the heatpipe was just big enough for an air bubble to appear instead of being filled by paste, and the precise area on the GPU die was a hotspot but lacked a temperature sensor close enough to trigger throttling. In short, it seems you faced a rare combination of unfortunate circumstances. If you recently purchased this RTX 2060 Super and can return it for repair, your chances are slim. You might consider downclocking the GPU to test if stability improves at the expense of performance. A lower clock speed could help you locate a more stable operating condition.

Here is a revised version:

The content will not be corrected; it requires replacement.
