It seems this problem has become more common lately. Now getting my PC to start and have the monitors recognize the connection is becoming increasingly difficult and really annoying. I'm going to explain what happened: Monitors: Dell P2421DC + PC: GTX 1070, Motherboard GA-Z77-D3H, Intel i5 3570k, Windows 10. I connected both monitors using DP -> DP. Previously I was able to do this easily, but now it's not so straightforward. Problem: When the PC powers on (lights and peripherals are working), I turn on the monitors first, then both screens show “No DP signal from your device” and enter standby mode. Sometimes it takes a brief pause, sometimes it’s a longer period before everything stops. After turning off the PC, I unplug the monitors, reconnect them, and try again. It keeps happening—sometimes after one cycle, sometimes I have to disconnect the monitors completely and then it works, other times nothing changes and I forget about it. Each time I try to fix it, it feels completely random. At first I thought it was just a graphics driver issue. I updated the latest Nvidia drivers but it didn’t help. Tried HDMI connections with the motherboard’s ports as well. Connecting several Mac notebooks and a HP mini PC to the same ports and cables always worked perfectly. This clearly points to a PC problem. I’m not sure what to do next and would really appreciate any advice.

You likely managed to capture some video without using graphical drivers or an operating system. (For instance, accessing the BIOS.) If not, it’s unclear. Do you have another monitor or TV to test? Also, how recently did you clean your hardware?

It seems quite unusual. I believe I might have another monitor nearby. I’ll mention it tomorrow to make sure the monitors aren’t the problem. The hardware hasn’t been cleaned in a while—it’s a fairly dusty case (fractal R5), so it should be clean enough, but I should give it a good wipe! Anything specific you’d like me to watch for?

Turn off your monitors once the PC is powered down? Or simply allow them to shut down automatically when the machine is off? If you’re shutting them off manually with the power button after turning it on, try letting them enter sleep mode when the computer is off, or if you prefer they don’t waste energy while idle, switch them back on before starting the PC. Check if this adjustment affects their behavior.

Thanks for the feedback. I might have acted too quickly. I completed a complete driver reset using DDU and everything appears to be working fine so far. I'll make the necessary updates and appreciate your advice!

I’ll remember this. The display driver warnings and CMOS changes didn’t help much. I spent some weekend time reseating the RAM and updating the BIOS through a CMOS reset. It helped at first, but after a few restarts while adjusting BIOS settings again, I’m stuck once more...

Consider checking if the problem persists after resetting BIOS settings or temporarily disabling certain configurations. It might be one of those BIOS adjustments that are affecting performance. If a quick startup option was restored, fast boot is likely the culprit—it should be turned off immediately to prevent similar issues with sleep and hibernate in Windows 10 and later versions.
