Frequent random frame drops and stuttering happening in the game.
I've had this problem from the very start when I first installed the game. When I launch it, the TDM round drops frames way too much, then sometimes it goes back to 60 with rare dips. The game is on my old 4TB Seagate Barracuda drive which was probably a year old. Here are all my other specs below. I have no idea what could be causing this. I thought the overclock settings were the problem, so I reset everything except the XMP profile and GPU fan curve. Even after reimaging with a fresh copy of Windows 11 Pro without luck, nothing fixed it. I tried running both the 522.25, 526.86, and the current 526.98 drivers each time with Display Driver Uninstaller first. Game settings in MW2 don't seem to help either. Has anyone had a similar problem and figured out how to fix it? I'm just trying to play at a locked 1080p60. Specs: i5-8600K (Stock Clock/Voltage) (IDCooling 240MM Watercooler with Custom Fan Curve. It never gets over 60 degrees C). MSI Z390 MPG Gaming Plus (Latest Bios). 16GB (8GBx2) TeamGroup TForce Delta DDR4 3200MHz (Default XMP Profile Enabled). MSI RTX 2060 Super Ventus GP OC 8GB GDDR6 (Stock Clocks/Voltage). (Custom Fan Curve Never gets over 65 degrees C). Samsung PM961 256GB M.2 Seagate BarraCuda 4TB ST4000DM004 800W PSU (Don't remember the Brand but it's 80+Gold) (Had it since 2017 with my previous build). My UserBench Results: MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS (MS-7B51) Performance Results - UserBenchmark
Hey there! Welcome to the forums. You have an 800W PSU that says 80+Gold but I don't remember the brand name. It's been in my computer since 2017 with the first build. Here is where you need to check the make and model number of this unit. To find it, you will have to take the side panel off your PC and look for a sticker with the info written on it. Can you tell me what BIOS version you are currently running? It's better than just saying "the latest." Also, check if your SSD is getting any new firmware updates using Samsung's Magician app. I even tried reinstalling Windows 11 Pro all over again but that didn't help either. Do you mean cloning the operating system, or do you want me to reset it?
I had to pull the power supply out completely to actually see the label. It's a High Power HPL-800BR-F14S rated for 800W with an 80+ Bronze efficiency rating. The BIOS version is E7B51IMS.1E2 and it was built on 10/12/2022. Magician doesn't seem to like my SSD. Every value shows up as N/A, meaning I can barely do anything with it. The full model number is MZVLW256HEHP-000H1. Windows came fresh from a USB install using Media Creation Tool, and the SSD was formatted entirely. It's running on 22H2 and getting all Windows updates now.
Playing COD games on a PC isn't running smoothly. Even on the best computers, it's just luck-based stuff and fixing things takes too much time. I'd tell you to check your power settings in Windows and turn on Nvidia Control Panel so they get as high performance as possible. If that still doesn't help, lower all graphics to their lowest setting and try them up one by one until you find what breaks it with the process of elimination.
I have had that power supply since buying it back in 2016 or 2017. I don't know which one exactly. It's not used every single day either. Sometimes we use it at full capacity, but mostly just for less. The stuttering shows up in both BF and Fortnite now too, though the BF one fixes itself faster than the game does once it stops. When the stutter is over, everything feels fine while I play, unlike in MW2 where it happens again and again. Those are the only two games I have been playing regularly. But back when I started, the stuttering also happened sometimes with Fortnite.
I keep my performance set to "Ultimate" with maximum power on my NVIDIA card. Even if I turn down everything else to the smallest possible setting, the difference isn't very big at all.
