Frequent App and PC Crashes
Frequent App and PC Crashes
Hey everyone, here’s a quick rundown of what’s been happening with my PC. Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a lot of errors, crashes, and BSODs—plus frequent restarts. The most common culprits seem to be World of Warcraft, Discord, and Chrome—the three apps I rely on most. It’s not usually enough to stop everything, but it’s enough to keep me on edge.
System Details:
- OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
- Specs: Intel Core i9-13900K (3 GHz, 24 cores), Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler, Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F motherboard, G.Skill Ripjaws S5 RAM (32GB), Samsung 980 Pro SSD (2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0)
- Graphics: Zotac GAMING Trinity OC RTX 4070 Ti (12GB)
- Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 ATX Mid Tower
- Power Supply: SeaSonic VERTEX GX-1200 (1200W, Gold Certified)
- BIOS: ROG STRIX Z790-E (also updated from previous version)
About a month ago I updated to version 1501, but since then there’s been a new release. I’m planning to post this thread soon and will update accordingly.
During crashes, I’ve used:
- WoW
- Discord
- Chrome
Error logs: I didn’t save the dump before reinstalling, but after that I got multiple BSODs. I found one here (link):
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aq5ZErfslGGLkV2n0GKE...j?e=tWrop9
When I opened the Resource & Performance Monitor, it kept saying “Collecting data for 60 seconds…” and never changed. The save button was grayed out even after an hour. If you see something odd with this, let me know—I might need to double-check.
I also tried:
- SFC scan (sometimes fixes errors but didn’t)
- Memory test (MemTest86) – clean results
- Updated BIOS
- Swapped RAM (two identical sticks) – crashes increased
- Replaced old RAM with new kits
- Removed secondary drives
- Formatted boot drive and old Windows install media
- Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro
Still no improvement. I did save some BSOD screenshots, but they didn’t all load properly.
Event logs show a lot of errors, and the system is still functional enough to run most apps, though it’s definitely irritating.
Any tips or tools you’d recommend? Thanks!
Visit C:\Windows\Minidump and verify the presence of any minidump files. If found, return to the Windows directory and transfer the entire Minidump folder to the Downloads folder (use your desktop if OneDrive isn't available). Compress the copied folder and include it in a post. Please adhere strictly to the guidelines provided by Windows.
Here is a revised version:

Using only one dump file makes it hard to get a solid analysis because many problems can point to random drivers and processes. The issue here points to the Nvidia GPU driver. Switch the dump format to a small memory dump, which will keep the five most recent files for this type.
I had reinstalled windows before making the post (and learning that these dump files exist), which is why there's only one there. I had another crash a few mins ago, so I could post another, but I'm not sure if two is enough to move the needle. I have attached the pair that I now have in case it helps. Do driver issues make sense if the PC is crashing on fresh windows installs? Minidump.zip
The issue is linked to the Nvidia driver, and this is the current pattern. Driver problems don't usually appear during a fresh installation if you've obtained the newest one. They seldom point to hardware directly; instead, they attribute faults to the driver.
The situation seems consistently problematic despite careful evaluation. It appears the issue persists across various considerations. Considering a replacement motherboard could be a sensible option if you're unsure about other factors.
Zotac is swapping my GPU under warranty, but they won’t send a replacement until they get it back (even though I paid the full price for it once they confirm the defective part). This leaves me stuck for a while. Thanks for your assistance. I’m puzzled about how typical return procedures are in this industry—I haven’t encountered anything like this in years. Edit: After sending numerous emails with many participants, they finally agreed to an advanced replacement, which they had previously said was impossible.
Minidump.zip experienced additional crashes. Attached minidumps. I'm moving forward with a GPU swap regardless, but any new relevant details from these dumps would be appreciated. It looks like if the GPU isn't the issue, the motherboard or processor might be the problem.
