Freezing to a black screen on the desktop – need assistance, I’m struggling!
Hey Everyone,
I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my computer. I’ve been experiencing frequent freezes to black screens and the desktop.
Details: I’m using a 4K monitor while watching TV on the left monitor through a web browser, with the tab open on the right. The game I’m playing is Black Desert Online. During play, the system suddenly freezes. CPU and GPU temps were around mid-70s before the issue started. All monitors went black, then came back but the hardware shut down. I-Cue and Signal RGB stopped working.
Here’s a screenshot of the error messages from Event Viewer:

If you need more information, just let me know. I really need some assistance with this.
What I’ve tried so far:
- Replaced all monitor cables
- Performed a full DDU wipe and driver reinstall
- Removed any existing operating system
Hardware specs:
- 9800x3D
- Aorus Pro Ice Motherboard
- G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5 6000
- GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GeForce RTX 5090
- Lian Li Edge series EG1000 White, 1000W ATX12V v3.1, 80 PLUS PLATINUM

Which BIOS version is active on your motherboard?

Perform a full DDU wipe and reinstall of drivers.
Regarding drivers, turn off the iGPU in BIOS, then use DDU in Safe Mode to eliminate all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia), after which you can manually install your preferred GPU drivers from Nvidia's support site using an elevated command, such as right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
You mentioned three monitors—what models are they and how are they connected to the system?
27 Inch UltraGear 4K UHD Nano IPS 1ms 144Hz G-Sync Compatible Gaming Monitor
2x Asus VG248
Almost all of the VG248 models are available via display port, while the touch screen uses one of the ports.
*Which BIOS version is installed on your motherboard?
FA5 - Latest / 7/16/25
GPU Driver - 581.08
I checked and it looks like you have PCB revision 1.1; here’s the link: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X87...support#dl. Gigabyte is the only company offering PCB revisions for their motherboards, and they usually provide different BIOS versions depending on the revision. Since you're using the latest drivers, try using DDU and revert to older versions—downgrading could be a good first step. Regarding the start, I assume all your displays are connected to the discrete GPU, so you can safely disable the iGPU. If you're using Windows 11, let me know which version you're running (not just the edition).
Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100
Completed full clean DDU in safe mode. Disabled iGPU, functioned properly for 45 minutes before crashing.
Description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm is unavailable.
Device 00000124 reported error on GPUID: 100.
GPU recovery action changed from 0x0 (no action) to 0x1 (requires GPU reset).
TDR occurred on GPUID:100, reset TDR was performed on that device, and a restart of the TDR was initiated.
What version of the driver were you using this time?
It worked for 45 minutes before failing.
How much time would pass before you began this discussion?
I didn't back date and was using the latest version. Will try DDU safe mode again and go with the older build.
I suspected a problem with the signal rgb and i-cue causing the crash, so I removed the signal app which still caused it to fail.
Typically it takes 15-20 minutes. I just assembled this whole system at the beginning of the year.
Could the system still experience crashes when operating with just the main monitor and two others turned off?
