Hello, I've been dealing with this issue for a long time. When working on my PC, the mouse would suddenly stop, then the windows would freeze completely, and the screen would go black. Eventually, the system would restart—usually after using Q Code B4, which isn't related to display problems. This has persisted across two builds.
Initially, I had an older i7 6800K with a GTX1080. The issue seemed resolved when I replaced the Nvme SSD with a standard 2.5-inch SSD. Later, I upgraded to an i9 9900X with an RTX3080, added 10GB of TUF OC RAM, swapped in a new Mobo, upgraded the power supply, and installed a 2TB 970 Evo Plus. The only components from my previous build are two 3.5-inch HDDs and a Liquid AIO.
I tried reseating everything, changed the PSU, swapped the GPU to an RTX 2080 Ti, and even updated the RAM. Still, the problem returned. I went back to the RTX3080, reinstalled Windows, and did a CMOS clear. No luck. I ran diagnostics, but the Mini Dump files kept showing errors only during Kernel Power 41 restarts.
I’m using a Samsung Neo G9 with two extra monitors, all different from my old setup. The issue mostly occurs when editing in Premiere Pro—oddly enough, even when using ALT+Tab. I changed the Nvidia driver to 472.12 and rolled back, but it still happened once when the screen went black. Pressing Shift+Winkey+Ctrl+B to restart the GPU driver fixed it temporarily. The PC wouldn’t restart afterward.
I’ve run diagnostics before, tried various fixes, and even swapped CPUs and PSUs, but nothing seems to resolve it. It appears to be a display driver problem rather than hardware failure. I’ve tested with fresh SSDs and external drives, and all editing is done on external SSDs or internal 850 EVO drives. The issue doesn’t seem to appear during gaming, and I ran stress tests like Furmark and Heaven Benchmarking without overheating.
I’m confident in my ability to run diagnostics, but so far, nothing has helped.
