Other Linux desktop setups need installation, though Ghost BSD and Nomad BSD are bundled with the system. I’ve only attempted installing Nomad BSD and found it straightforward with XFCE, even simpler than some Linux distributions. The experience with Ghost BSD remains unclear to me.
I actually tested it on my laptop. It usually takes around 10 minutes to set up a working desktop using a basic guide. I gave up when the screen resolution didn’t match expectations, since I didn’t want to waste too much time. All I needed was to learn how to use xrandr, which I remember from before.
FreeBSD is primarily designed for server environments rather than as a desktop operating system. It can be more challenging to use and maintain on a desktop compared to Linux, since there are fewer users who are experienced with it. However, using it still provides a secure and stable desktop experience.
