Frame creation in Last of Us 2 at 240HzGeneration details: 240Hz frame rate
Hey everyone, here’s a brief rundown. The 5950x is undervolted at 4.3/4.25 with the OC, not overclocked – that’s why it handles things well. All watercooled, custom loop built. Running Last of Us Part II and TAA in Samsung G9. The display is a 5120x1440@240Hz VRR screen using a premium DisplayPort cable. I’m testing the latest updates and with no DLSS enabled, performance stays solid.
Average 120fps at around 70-80% GPU usage. When I enable DLSS without upscaling, it activates too. Utilization drops to about 70-80%. Not too surprising since other titles like Forza Motorsport 2024 and Alan Wake 2 hit near full capacity, while Firaque runs around 80-100fps and AW2 sits at 60-70 with frame generation on.
My display supports 240Hz, so I’m aiming for that level using frame generation. I suspect frame generation interpolates frames to reach a smoother rate, but it’s not clear if it’s actually boosting to 240fps. My GPU usage is around 70%, which is normal. I think there might be a registry tweak or display setting affecting this – maybe a screenshot would help.
I’m hoping for 240fps or close with VSync enabled, since my VRR is on. Just curious why frame generation doesn’t push it higher even though I’m hitting 120fps. If you’ve got any tips or seen similar issues, let me know!
yes, hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling and vrr just worked fine with AW2 and other titles. i experimented with lossless-scaling but ended up having to cap my frame rate, which increased latency and caused jitter compared to a fully uncapped experience. if i could force in a fake frame at 60-120fps native, it would likely be detected since many real frames are generated quickly. with 50% of frames being fake, the effect would be noticeable at higher FPS, making motion appear smoother or choppy depending on the game.
