they are dismantling all MMORPGs and MMOs, not just Wow; most of them vanish, similar to Archlord. New games don’t improve much, and it’s mainly the companies to blame.

i see only the growth of mmorpgs, not their decline. with eso and others moving to consoles, it’s just a matter of time before consoles work together, and pc and console play side by side. this could spark a much larger conflict between consoles and pc, which might be beneficial for creators. most gamers enjoy mmo experiences, and if you consider it, many games are shifting toward mmo formats. bf4 is attracting more players each match, making it likely the game will evolve into a huge arena. mmorpgs won’t disappear as long as rpg fans remain, and all my friends love rpgs—i think they’ll appreciate games like woow and swtor eventually, even though some might find them time-consuming.

Failed to load G2A, decided to shop on Amazon. Would pay $25 for Lich King, Mists of Pandaria, and Cataclysm would that be reasonable? I’m okay with the cost but hope they include a month of subscription.

Instead of purchasing the disks, obtain the complete game directly from the account page on battle.net. It includes the full experience. You only pay for the license. I considered trying the key with your battle chest to check if it grants access to the updated version featuring the base game plus the first three expansions, eventually covering all four after new releases. Regarding a class, as @Fate mentioned, Warlock seems to fit your needs. Also, those who quit early—whether in vanilla, Battle Pass, or World of Warcraft—often feel the game has become less engaging. Conversely, players who have stayed consistent for over five years report it's becoming more enjoyable and user-friendly. It's just a different perspective.

Have you explored Neverwinter Online? I don’t like World of Warcraft; its systems feel very dated, and it seems quite old.

I have a hunter ranger around 40 years old, I enjoyed it, but I didn’t want the endgame raids.

Unless you know you have an addictive personality, there's no reason not to try it. You can play up to level 20 for free. 20 levels isn't much but should give you an ok idea of how the game is. You might as well.

For fans of endgame raids, WoW offers a solid challenge. @Fulgrim seems confused about the topic. High-level raids (Heroic, coming soon to Mythic) remain tough, possibly more demanding than ever. He likely started with casual play, defeated bosses, and mistakenly linked it to real endgame. Reaching the endgame might require climbing to level 90 (or boosting), using tourist mode for gear, then shifting to flex. Eventually, you'll find a guild focused on standard content. You won't be raiding Heroic for long unless you have strong proof of skill—top-tier groups won’t consider you without substantial experience.

Heroic gear will arrive in just a few weeks, but the simplification seems necessary. World of Warcraft remains complex from an outside view, and there are still aspects I haven’t fully grasped even after almost a year.
