When I was around 12, I discovered the WoW battlechest and still have that green 40$ one in my closet. Now that I own it, I’m wondering what else I’d need to get started. It comes with the original game CD and an expansion CD, which I bought as a kid thinking it was offline. After looking for MMORPGs with classes involving time-based curses or summoning pets or minions, I found only games like Allods (now defunct) or WoW itself. So I’m considering trying WoW soon, but I’m not sure if I’ll really enjoy it. My plan is to try a new class first—like Wildstar—but nothing seemed perfect. What should a new player do if they’re just starting out?

The battlechest includes a month of gameplay. Test it out to check your preference. A free trial is available until level 20. For classes involving time-based damage and pets, pair a warlock with the affliction spec.

There are several options available: two codes for ten-day free playtime, two strategy manuals for Burning Crusade and standard game, two install disks, and a product catalog. However, the 30-day pass isn’t visible. I’m not sure these keys are correct, there’s also an invite code for a friend.

G2A offers the WoW complete pack at a very reasonable price (covering everything up to MoP), so if you plan to buy Wow, start there. I can also share some thoughts on the DoT classes—like Affliction warlock and shadow priest. Both are enjoyable, though Affliction has a higher skill ceiling, demands more attention to detail, and teaches how temporary stat boosts can be misused, but it delivers stronger damage. Shadow priest offers less micromanagement but still provides fun gameplay, plus its offhealing feature helps if your healers aren’t great. My suggestion is to level up to around 20 first—try the shadow priest at that stage, and save the warlock for later—or borrow a friend’s account if you prefer.

Hello! Your current battlechest features one expansion (The Burning Crusade). Today's offerings include three expansions (TBC, Wrath of The Lich King & Cataclysm). I'm not sure if your chest remains compatible. Still, you can enjoy the full game until level 20 for free. Once you reach level 20, the next generation battlechest costs 15€ and grants 30 days of playtime. You can progress up to level 85, then you'll need to purchase Mists Of Pandaria to unlock level 90 (the highest current level). By the end of this year, a new expansion will be available (up to level 100).

I played WoW on vanilla and TBC. I stopped soon after WoTLK came out, tried Cataclysm for a month, then again for MoP. Now it’s super straightforward—everything is given to you easily, and it can be quite fun if you enjoy playing with your own music in the background. But once you hit the endgame, it only takes a few days to get decent gear, and you can jump right into raids (if that’s what you like). In the past, I found myself hating it because each expansion makes things simpler and removes stats, making it more "user-friendly." You might want to give it a shot, since you won’t know for sure until you try. From my experience as an old raider, though, it feels like a lot of shortcuts now.

It really captures the essence. I often try 3s and feel frustrated when the game feels unfair in PvP. Even though I understand it’s not great, I still want to renew my subscription because I don’t think I’ll play much after that.

I'm still thinking about this. If my friends saw I wanted to play WoW they'd give me a strange look and step back, laughing. They're all still fans of consoles when it comes to games. I still enjoy titles like Tera and SWTOR—they're really fun. I'm a big fan of raiding or PvP depending on my class, and I switch between healing, DPS, PvP, and tanks. But the main reason I didn't try WoW was the graphics; I thought other games looked better. I actually tried it at a friend's place, which made me stick with Obliquity on Xbox instead. Even games like ROOM and Allods back then had better visuals. Now they're updated and look promising, but that depends if I can let go of my Star Wars passion.

I reminisce quite a lot with WoW - like Onyxia raids. First time tanking Illidan as a prot warrior - i didn't realize you had to pop shield wall when he detaches his blades of azzinoth. Whole raid group wiped in like 3 seconds flat. Prot pally tanking was awesome as well, but they've buggered that up and you can't mass AoE tank trash mobs like that any more. Horde trying to raid Ironforge, and getting bitchslapped across the room by ol' Magni Bronzebeard. Only good thing that happened in WoTLK was under Wyrmrest Temple, waiting to raid Obsidian Sanctum (i think it was) and there were 2 horde raid groups versus the 1 i was in. Some of the horde turned on their pvp and tried taunting us to fight, we obliged and ended up wiping both their raid groups. Good times....

Many console players view WoW as 'nerdy' and make jokes while watching games, but they’re just as similar to others.
