Hey Guys,
I’m writing this after encountering some issues with my DELL G15 5520 laptop for quite some time now.
My current setup is:
CPU - 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti
RAM - 16 GB
It’s been about 7 to 8 months since I bought this laptop, and it performed well at first. However, I’ve noticed a few minor problems such as the laptop shutting down unexpectedly and failing to wake up after that. I suspect the issue might be related to software.
My main concern is that during gaming sessions like God of War, CS2, the FPS initially works fine but drops significantly after 30 to 40 minutes, causing stuttering and eventually ending within 5 to 10 minutes.
The CPU temperature reaches up to 85°C, while the GPU stays around 75°C. The room temperature is around 42°C, which makes me wonder if overheating is the cause.
I’ve tried turning off Intel Turbo Boost to run the CPU at its base clock speed, but the problem still persists.
I really need someone experienced to help me fix this. Please assist a fellow gamer.

Hey there,
Yes, sounds to me like heat and throttling are the issue. Have you cleaned out the vents on the chassis? After a few months (even less) the intake vents and sometimes the exhaust can get clogged with dust and goop. A good clean with compressed air might help. You would have better results with this, if you take the back of the laptop off.
It's possible the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU has worn. Unlikely though. Worth considering to do when it gets to last few options.
What power plan are you using? Dop you use Dell software to manage processor states and usage etc?
Are all system drivers, bios, GPU drivers up to date?
If you raise the rear of the laptop up a few inches, and prop it on a book, do the temps drop? Could be airflow.

Problems after some time seem related to a heat problem.
I've heard about this in many laptops.
What could have changed since last month when everything was fine?
42c!! that's 107F.
A laptop cooler is reaching 42c, and the air isn't cooling properly.
If you have air conditioning, use it.
If not, open a window to let out the hot air.
Make sure your laptop fans are working and aren't blocked.
Repasting the cooler probably won't help much, and doing it wrong could make things worse.
The processor monitors its own temperature and will slow down if it reaches a dangerous level—Intel's threshold is 100c.
That slows it down and reduces heat output.
Slower performance causes stuttering.
What should you do?
Avoid choosing the high-performance power profile.
Instead, use a balanced plan.
Set the maximum CPU performance to below 100%.
Try setting it at 80%.

Thank you for your message. I reviewed the situation without opening the back panel and noticed a lot of debris on the heat sink. I attempted to open it, but it appears I'm hesitant to do so due to safety concerns. It seems the item is still under warranty. Are there any alternatives to cleaning it without opening the panel?

Thank you for the reply.
I attempted these adjustments, checked the bios, turned off the Intel boost, but there was still no improvement.

Do you own an nVidia graphics card? I’m experiencing some issues for the past two weeks, with FPS dropping after a certain period (usually around 20 minutes for my preferred game, which runs on low resources). I’m considering installing an older version of nVidia drivers.
