FPS sudden rise and sudden drop in GTA 5 and FiveM
When gaming, sometimes FPS drops sharply even when not playing, then recovers over time. It happens regardless of location or activity. I’m experiencing this with my current setup: RTX 2070, Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB RAM, 2400mhz, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F. It keeps fluctuating between 100 and 20 over about 30 minutes, then settles again. Any tips to fix this?
It appears a background program could be consuming significant resources. Activities like games and system updates often contribute to this. Run the game in a windowed setting and launch Task Manager. Monitor for any sudden increases in process activity or high percentage usage in the tabs. Look for any unexpected spikes that suggest heavy consumption.
Verify if your setup is slowing down due to heat, I rely on HWiNFO to monitor all temps and related metrics.
When the task manager was shut down, it ran at 80% utilization. Opening it to investigate caused it to immediately drop to 60% usage, with no CPU activity detected afterward.
