I have tested it with Game Mode on and off. In the advanced settings I have tried Hardware Acceleration on and off and Variable Refresh rate on and off.
I rely on the specific games' in-game FPS counter (if available) or I use Nvidia Overlay or run a benchmark to verify the accuracy (they consistently show correct values).
I have tried various graphical configurations. I made both small and significant adjustments. Even reducing the resolution to 720p doesn’t affect performance; FPS remains in the high 60s.
What frame rates are you aiming for or working towards? The reasoning behind it. Have you explored or adjusted any 3D settings using the relevant Zotac Control Panel?
I'm not aiming for a particular FPS target. I’m fine at 60fps in 1440p, which is more than sufficient. The issue arises when playing certain games where I achieve over 100fps or high 80s, but then notice a 30% drop in performance without any explanation. The fact that lowering the graphics settings to their minimum while still maintaining the same FPS indicates there may be a problem.
I’m currently testing another CPU to compare with mine. My Passmark is around the low 8000, whereas the baseline should be in the high 12 000. This makes me suspect a potential CPU issue.
I haven’t used the Zotac Control Panel yet, I’m not even certain they offer one. I’ll try it out today and share the findings.
Usually indicates your CPU is the limiting factor in games. With 2400mhz RAM and a 1600x display, slow RAM is already a problem for Ryzen chips, especially older models like yours. A 2x8GB 3200-3600mhz kit should provide a noticeable performance improvement.
I'm gradually improving each part. I just upgraded the PSU and considered a 5600x CPU. Likely, this means a motherboard and memory upgrade too. However, I lost nearly 30% performance with no obvious reason that bothers me much. As mentioned before, I have a slightly slower 1600 non-X version CPU from a friend (from his previous build), which I plan to test in my system. If I see better results across all benchmarks and games, it would clearly point to a CPU issue.
But as I mentioned, it seems unlikely it's your CPU because you said your GPU is always running high. Still, it might not hurt to give it a try.
